Hello;
I am David Wilson, and I am running as an independent for council seat #5 here in North Hatley. A native of Gaspe, I was raised in northern Quebec and have a BBA (business) degree from Bishop’s University and an MBA from Concordia. We first purchased a property in North Hatley in 2001, and built our home from 2005 to 2008, moving here full time in 2009.
I find our village fantastic, the nature, lake, people, walking trails, Nordic skiing, and of course, Curling & Golf.
To me it is important that our village remain a village, with the council and Mayor attentive to citizens who want to, and do participate. This is why I wish to be an independent, as the Mayor and his/her council should work as a team without party affiliation. We should strive to become more innovative in our fiscal operations and establish what our priorities are, (water, sewer, roads and environment).
As one of the most indebted and high taxed municipalities in the Estrie we should have a long-term plan as to what has to be done and when, and look into infrastructure repairs that are still not resolved. Without a plan we can only hope to remain one of the higher taxed villages, but with one we can hope to improve our situation even if it will take some time.
We should also work with citizens and groups of citizens who are willing to give their time and skills to help our village. After all we do have a small population, so let’s encourage teamwork. This is front and center at our curling club, “Curling North Hatley” that I was president of for 3 years in my recent past and that is run by its members who volunteer their time, as I still do to organize the senior schedule and teams, as well as our Senior Open Bonspiel every mid winter. So, I do understand how North Hatley citizens can help our village by offering time, skills and leadership for the benefit of our beautiful village and its citizens.
I trust that some of the diverse skills I developed in my management career, (business development, mergers, acquisitions, employee training) and working in several Canadian provinces and in Europe will enable me to be a productive team member for the North Hatley council.
We must remember, our system of government is for the people, by the people, so we are all in this together. I hope you will give me the opportunity to represent you by voting in my favour on October 31st or November 7th. Thank you.

Je m’appelle David Wilson et je me présente comme candidat indépendant pour le siège # 5 du conseil municipal de North Hatley. Native de Gaspé, et ayant grandi sur la côte nord du Québec, j’obtenu un BBA en affaires de L’Université Bishop et une Maitrise en affaires de Concordia. Nous avons acquis un terrain à North Hatley en 2001, et avons entrepris la construction d’une maison qui s’est échelonnées de 2005 à 2008, pour l’en faire notre résidence principale à compter de 2009.
Je trouve que le Village de North Hatley est formidable, grâce à son environnement naturel, y incluant le lac, les pistes de randonnés, le ski nordique, le golf et curling… et évidement ses habitants.
Ce qui m’importe est que notre village maintienne son statut, avec un conseil et un maire a l’écoute de leurs citoyens. Je me présente donc comme candidat indépendant avec l’objectif de travailler en équipe avec le Maire et son conseil. Nous avons plusieurs défis à relever, donc l’enjeu des finances, la gestion de nos infrastructures (routes, eau potable et égouts) et enfin l’environnement. Considérant que North Hatley souffre d’un niveau d’endettement très élevé et par conséquent d’un niveau de taxation des plus élevé en Estrie il est essentiel d’établir un plan a long terme concernant les investissements dans les infrastructures. En établissant un plan clair et ordonne il est possible de relever ce défi avec succès.
Nous devons travailler avec les citoyens et les groupes de citoyens qui sont prêt à offrir leur temps et leurs connaissances afin de bâtir notre village. Vue la taille modeste de North Hatley pourquoi pas travailler en équipe? Un exemple est notre club de curling, Curling North Hatley, que j’ai eu l’honneur de présidé pendant 3 ans. Le club est géré par ses membres en offrant bénévolement leur temp et connaissances. Je sais qu’il y a des citoyens de North Hatley qui sont prêt à offrir leurs expertise, connaissances, et leadership au bénéfice de notre beau village de North Hatley.
Je suis convaincu que les connaissances acquises au cours de ma carrière de gestionnaire, (fusion, développement, formation et achat d’entreprises) au Québec et ailleurs dans d’autres provinces Canadiennes et également l’ors d’un mandat en Europe me permettront d’être un excellent membre du conseil de North Hatley.
Il ne faut pas oublier que notre système de gouvernement est POUR LE PEUPLE, PAR LE PEUPLE, alors nous sommes tous ensemble pour ce défi.
