My #1 priority for North Hatley: Improving its financial position

Raising taxes is not an option. There are other ways to reach that objective. One is fostering an environment where businesses thrive and new players are interested and able to establish themselves in the area, generating additional municipal income taxes to share the load of operational expenses.

As a business owner and real estate investor since 2003, sound financial management skills have been an essential element of achieving success, and I would like to use that skill set to contribute to North Hatley’s future, along with fellow elected officials.

Heritage preservation

Developing the local economy doesn’t have to be achieved at the expense of heritage preservation. In fact, I believe that architectural esthetics will play an important role in continuing to attract the kind of tourists we want, those who enjoy beauty, nature, and a peaceful and respectful environment.

The buildings I have bought for the past 15 years are old and in need of repair, and I give them a new life while respecting their architectural style and surrounding environment. That is what I hope to encourage as North Hatley spreads its wings to get back to its former glory.

Protecting the environment

To leave the earth in a state where our grand-children’s generations and those that will follow will be able to enjoy the quality of life that we take for granted, I believe it is important to be strategic and conscious of the impact of our actions on our surroundings.

We can continue to enjoy life while encouraging initiatives that can potentially reduce the deterioration of our beautiful village’s shores and water quality.

The initiative of the previous administration, who has reached an agreement with the Transport Ministry to do an ecologic route test on chemin Magog in North Hatley this coming winter, could reduce the quantity of salt that ends up in the lake every year.

I think it’s only a beginning. If I am elected, I will put a lot of effort into working in collaboration with residents, business owners and the other elected officials in the 5 municipalities that border the lake, as well as the Regional County Municipality and the Environment ministry, to develop an action plan that includes both short-term and long-term initiatives, and to implement it as soon as possible.

Collaboration and transparency

In my opinion, collaboration between elected and nonelected individuals is the key to accomplishing things that will make us proud. Those who wish to contribute in their area of expertise are extremely valuable.

I sincerely believe that we can accomplish great things by stating our position with transparency and respect, and then collaborating in good faith to materialize the solution adopted by the majority.”
