Greetings, citizens of North Hatley,

The Municipality of the village of North Hatley is in election mode as we prepare to elect a new municipal council for the next four-year term.

I am Elizabeth Fee, incumbent municipal councillor, and I have put my name in again, for seat #2, on the new Council.

I have lived in North Hatley with my husband, David Campbell, for over forty years. During my time here, I have served five terms on Council as a councillor, and briefly as mayor.

With each term I have served, I have gained in knowledge and understanding of our village. My background in teaching sciences, in working in real estate, in running a small clothing business in North Hatley for many years, and as a technical writer, has given me skills that are helpful in equipping me to fulfill my role as a municipal councillor. 

First, I wish to point out what the role of councillor entails.

• A councillor must be available to attend all council meetings. A considerable investment of time is required.
• The experience of each councillor contributes to the process of governing our small village. We govern through resolutions, on a wide range of issues.
• Our administration does the work of getting council projects done, obtaining grants, hiring contractors, maintaining the village infrastructure.

I have four points I would like to make to explain what I hope to contribute as councillor.

My first point:

I am prepared to apply the wisdom I have gained from my life experience and previous times on Council to continue work on the municipal projects our outgoing council has underway,

Point two:

Communication is key to good relations between the Council and municipal administration and our citizens. Many misunderstandings and complaints will be eliminated with good communication.  I will work to implement communication tools that will allow efficient flow of information between the municipality and our citizens.

Point three:

I will continue to push for responsible development of our waterfront and public recreation spaces. Our Lake Massawippi is a beautiful environmental treasure. We need to make the lake accessible to both residents and tourists while protecting its fragile environment.

Point four:

I will continue to work toward the preservation of our cultural heritage by protecting historic buildings where possible within the economic framework that constrains these efforts.  I will work to ensure that our small village, with cultural roots in the English community, can continue to enjoy its bilingual status.

La municipalité du village de North Hatley est en pleine période électorale, et nous nous préparons à élire un nouveau conseil municipal pour les quatre prochaines années.

Je m’appelle Elizabeth Fee, je suis conseillère municipale sortante et je brigue un nouveau mandat au siège #2.

Je vis à North Hatley avec mon mari, David Campbell, depuis plus de quarante ans. Au cours de mon séjour ici, j’ai effectué cinq mandats au conseil en tant que conseillère et brièvement en tant que mairesse.

À chaque mandat, j’ai accumulé des connaissances et une meilleure compréhension de notre village. Mon expérience dans l’enseignement des sciences, l’immobilier, la gestion d’une petite entreprise pendant plusieurs années à North Hatley, et en tant que rédactrice technique m’a permis d’acquérir des compétences diverses qui m’aident à remplir mon rôle de conseillère municipale. 

Tout d’abord, je tiens à préciser en quoi consiste le rôle de conseiller.

•    Un conseiller doit être disponible pour assister à toutes les réunions du conseil. Cela demande un investissement considérable en temps.

•    L’expérience de chaque conseiller contribue au processus de gouvernance de notre village. Nous gouvernons par le biais de résolutions, sur un large éventail de questions.

•    Notre administration s’occupe de la réalisation des projets du conseil, de l’obtention de subventions, de l’embauche d’entrepreneurs et de l’entretien des infrastructures du village.

Je voudrais souligner quatre points pour expliquer ce que j’espère apporter en tant que conseiller.

Mon premier point :

Je suis prête à mettre à profit la sagesse que j’ai acquise au cours de ma vie et de mes précédents mandats au conseil pour poursuivre les projets municipaux engagés par le conseil sortant.

Point 2 :

La communication est essentielle pour entretenir de bonnes relations entre le conseil, l’administration municipale et nos citoyens. Une bonne communication permettra d’éliminer de nombreux malentendus et plaintes.  Je m’efforcerai de mettre en place des outils qui permettront une circulation efficace de l’information entre la municipalité et nos citoyens.

Point 3 :

Je continuerai à promouvoir un développement responsable de notre bord de l’eau et de nos espaces de loisirs publics. Notre lac Massawippi est un magnifique trésor environnemental. Nous devons rendre le lac accessible aux résidents et aux touristes tout en protégeant son environnement fragile.

Point 4:

Je continuerai à œuvrer pour la préservation de notre patrimoine culturel en protégeant les bâtiments historiques dans la mesure du possible, dans le cadre économique qui limite ces efforts.  Je travaillerai pour assurer que notre petit village, dont les racines culturelles sont ancrées dans la communauté anglaise, puisse continuer à bénéficier de son statut bilingue.
