Dear fellow citizens:

I believe in the democratic process. I believe in running a campaign that promotes not myself but public service to all citizens of North Hatley. I do not believe in using social media to launch microaggressions towards opponents or fellow citizens. I will reiterate my position clearly so there is no confusion: I am FOR being fiscally responsible, and in my previous roles as a councillor I have based my actions and weighed decisions on that very premise. That has not and will not change. I believe the responsibility and ultimate decision to consolidate two elections into a single election lies squarely with the current leadership of the Village of North Hatley. Should the town decide to proceed with a single election and follow the appropriate and official channels to do so, I would fully agree to a later election day. This would eliminate the need for either candidate to withdraw their candidacy or make further attempts at unofficial strategic manoeuvering to force a decision. I have no hidden agendas nor any desire to hold court on social media. My only and best intentions are to serve the community in an ethical and respectful manner.

In keeping with the proposal to hold one election, I invite Mr. Samson to withdraw his candidacy — as he originally suggested — and to run in an election for the second open seat, that being Seat No. 3. That would eliminate the need for an election for Seat No. 2 and save the town an estimated $15,000.

In closing, I will be attending this Thursday’s town meeting and would be happy to discuss this issue further with the mayor, council members, Mr. Samson and other citizens at that time.

Je crois au processus démocratique. Je crois qu’il faut mener une campagne qui promeut non pas ma personne mais le service public pour tous les citoyens de North Hatley. Je ne crois pas à l’utilisation des médias sociaux pour lancer des microagressions envers des opposants ou des concitoyens. Je vais réitérer ma position clairement afin qu’il n’y ait aucune confusion : Je suis POUR la responsabilité financière. Dans mes rôles précédents en tant que conseiller, j’ai basé mes actions et pesé mes décisions sur cette prémisse même. Cela n’a pas changé et ne changera pas. Je crois que la responsabilité et la décision finale de consolider deux élections en une seule incombe carrément aux dirigeants actuels du Village de North Hatley. Si la Ville décide de procéder à une seule élection et suit les voies appropriées et officielles pour le faire, je serais tout à fait d’accord pour que le jour de l’élection soit reporté. Cela éliminerait la nécessité pour tout candidat de retirer sa candidature ainsi mettre à fin toute autre tentative de manœuvre stratégique officieuse pour forcer une décision. Je n’ai pas d’intentions cachées ni de désir de faire la cour sur les médias sociaux. Mes seules et meilleures intentions sont de servir la communauté d’une manière éthique et respectueuse.

Conformément à la proposition de tenir une seule élection, j’invite M. Samson à retirer sa candidature, comme il l’a suggéré, et à se présenter à l’élection pour le siège n° 3. Ce faisant, il éliminerait la nécessité de tenir une élection pour le siège no 2, ce qui permettrait à la ville d’économiser environ 15 000 $.

En conclusion, j’assisterai à l’assemblée municipale de demain et ça me ferait plaisir de discuter davantage cette question avec le maire, les membres du conseil, M. Samson et d’autres citoyens à ce moment-là.

Bonjour à tous, citoyens de North Hatley,

Nous, Mme Carrol Haller et moi avons eu une rencontre informative en préparation de l’élection pour le siège n°2 à titre de conseiller municipal. 

Comme vous le savez, j’ai ouvertement et publiquement proposé à Mme Haller d’éviter à la Municipalité d’engendrer des coûts exorbitants en tenant 2 élections partielles l’une après l’autre. En tant que contribuable, je crois fermement que nous aurions pu, de façon consentante et d’un commun accord, retarder nos candidatures et attendre la prochaine élection partielle. J’ai demandé au Président d’élection et un montant approximatif de 15 000 $ est estimé pour la tenue d’une élection partielle. 

Malheureusement, je dois vous informer que Mme Haller a refusé ma suggestion d’annuler cette élection, ce qui entraînera malheureusement deux élections partielles pour le village.

Je vous rappelle qu’une deuxième résignation, celle de Sophie Brasiola du siège n°3, ajoute une autre élection pour le village, entraînant un autre 15 000 $. 

Sans toutefois comprendre la motivation de Mme Haller à engendrer des coûts exorbitants pour une deuxième élection, je respecte sa décision et lui souhaite bonne chance dans sa campagne.

To all citizens of North Hatley,

Mrs. Carrol Haller and I had an informative meeting with the President of Elections in preparation for the election of seat #2 on the municipal council.

As you know, I openly and publicly proposed to Mrs.Haller that the Municipality avoid incurring exorbitant costs by holding 2 by-elections back to back. As a taxpayer, I firmly believe that we could have, in a consensual manner and by mutual agreement, delayed our candidacies and waited for the next by-election. I have asked the President of Elections, and an approximate amount of $15,000 is estimated for the holding of a single by-election.

Unfortunately, I have to report that Mrs.Haller has declined my suggestion to cancel this election, which will unfortunately result in two by-elections for the village.

I would remind you that a second resignation, that of Sophie Brasiola of seat #3, adds another election for the village, resulting in another $15,000. 

While I do not understand Mrs.Haller’s motivation to incur exorbitant costs for a second election, I respect her decision and wish her well in her campaign.
