Bonjour à tous / Hello everyone !

As we continue discussing how we can add to the life of our village, a conversation started with our mayor about having the Village organize and maintain snow banks in the baseball field on Lebaron street that our children could use to slide. After looking at the options, the Village thinks that it could organize this activity and maintain the park for about $2000. Someone has already committed the amount, but would like to double the amount in order for the Village to have a bit of flexibility and maintain it throughout the winter months.

Dans cet environnement compliqué où nos enfants n’ont plus beaucoup d’activités et sont collés à leurs ordinateurs tant pour les classes que pour pour leurs conversations avec leurs amie(e)s, nous espérons que nous pourrons les faire sortir à l’extérieur et leur donner une activité additionnelle qu’ils pourront partager avec leurs parents.

Nous cherchons donc à lever 2000$ pour égaler la somme déjà contribuée par un de nos résidents.

Please know that a tax receipt will be given by the Village for any amount contributed to this initiative. On vous rappelle qu’un reçu pour fins fiscales sera émis pour les montants contribués à cette initiative.

In reference to the January 3 post by Michel Desrosiers, Déneigement à North Hatley / North Hatley Snow Removal, this was the scene at the junction of the new bridge in town following a moderate snowfall. 

This large amount of salt-laden water, trapped by an edge of plowed snow, was temporarily prevented from flowing into and thus contaminating the river. We know that this runoff accumulated from the salting of Sherbrooke Hill but, given the Town’s explanation for the ditch and paving on Virgin Hill, a provision to trap and filter the water was not considered. 

More important, however, the Village of North Hatley has not revised its snow removal protocols to comply with accepted environmental standards practiced elsewhere. 

We urge our administration to act quickly on these oversights.

En référence au billet du 3 janvier 2020 de Michel Desrosiers, Déneigement à North Hatley / North Hatley Snow Removal, il se passait ceci à la jonction du nouveau pont au village suite à une chute de neige modérée.

Cette grande quantité d’eau chargée de sel, retenue par la neige empilée par le chasse-neige, a été temporairement empêchée de s’écouler et de contaminer ainsi la rivière. On sait que l’eau s’est accumulée à cause du sel employé sur le chemin Sherbrooke, mais, malgré l’explication fournie par le village pour justifier le fossé et le pavage sur le chemin Virgin, une disposition pour piéger et filtrer l’eau n’a pas été envisagée.

Plus important encore, le village de North Hatley n’a pas révisé ses protocoles de déneigement pour se conformer aux normes environnementales acceptées et pratiquées ailleurs.

Nous exhortons notre administration à agir rapidement face à ces omissions.

Les consultations publiques ont généré une quantité importante d’informations, toutes aussi précieuses les unes que les autres. Plusieurs de nos citoyens se sont exprimés par courriel, d’autres, par l’entremise de différentes plates-formes. La participation citoyenne a été au-delà de ce qui était espéré et nous vous en sommes sincèrement reconnaissants.

Avec la collaboration du consultant, le Comité en est maintenant à consolider l’ensemble des informations recueillies, afin de déterminer la séquence des actions à prioriser. Suivra un dernier échange avec les membres du Comité de pilotage, puis avec ceux du Conseil municipal.

D’ici le début du mois de février et en tenant compte des mesures sanitaires associées à la COVID-19, l’exercice devrait se conclure par une présentation publique.

Le Comité de planification stratégique profite de l’occasion pour vous souhaiter une bonne année 2021 et bien que les défis à relever soient encore nombreux, que l’espoir soit un rendez-vous au quotidien.

The public consultations generated a significant amount of information, all of which is equally important. Many of our citizens have spoken through email and other various platforms. Citizen participation went beyond what was hoped for and we are sincerely grateful.

With the collaboration of the consultant, the committee is presently consolidating all the information received, in order to determine which actions to prioritize. A final discussion will take place with the members of the committee, then with the City Council.

By early February, all while taking into account the health measures associated with COVID-19, the activity is expected to conclude with a public presentation.

The Strategic Planning Committee takes this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year. Even with the many challenges remaining, we wish you a year full of hope.
