The informal opening of the North Hatley Farmer’s Market last Saturday gave citizens and visitors a preview of an overdue upgrade to the facilities of the market space as well as a very welcome first step towards achieving a cohesive renovation of North Hatley’s ‘Town Square’ – the land encircled by Capelton, the Massawippi River and Main Street.
The summary of our Strategic Planning Committee’s work focusses in part on the need to establish a communal place to gather in our village and the Farmer’s Market is integral in that process.
Team Fanhca looks forward to sharing announcements of creative new public and private projects that aim to establish year-round cultural and recreation activities.

It is with great excitement that I send this update announcing the official opening of the 46th annual North Hatley Farmer’s Market, which will take place this upcoming Saturday, June 19th.
The soft opening, which was held on June 12th was overall very successful, in spite of not all merchants being present, and a few small adjustments, which was to be expected; hence the soft opening. Citizens and tourists were all very happy with the new installations, as were the merchants. As this tradition approaches its 50th year, it is clear this event has become a part of the culture of our village.
Many look forward to June when the Farmer’s Market begins again, as it has become a hub for community based gatherings amongst citizens; encompassed around the opportunity to support small local farmers and businesses. Especially under the circumstances of the pandemic, investing into an initiative like the Farmer’s Market is an ideal way to spark a rebirth of all things local and community inspired in a post-pandemic life. The investment in the new permanent facilities undeniably takes the Market to a new level for years to come, with the possibility for the space to evolve into an adaptable hub for the village. I see this space as a real community investment.
Due to the current situations regarding public health guidelines, we have had to alter the usual ceremony that takes place at the official opening. We have nonetheless sent out a press release and invited the minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to attend as the project was in part made possible thanks to the “programme de subvention proximité” we received.

L’ouverture informelle du marché champêtre de North Hatley samedi dernier a donné aux citoyens et aux visiteurs un aperçu d’une rénovation attendue des installations de l’espace du marché ainsi qu’une première étape très bienvenue vers la réalisation d’une rénovation cohérente de la ‘Town Square’ – le terrain entouré par Capelton, la rivière Massawippi et la rue Main.
Le résumé du travail de notre comité de planification stratégique se concentre en partie sur la nécessité d’établir un lieu commun de rassemblement dans notre village et le marché fermier fait partie intégrante de ce processus.
L’équipe Fanhca est impatiente de partager les annonces de nouveaux projets créatifs publics et privés qui visent à établir des activités culturelles et récréatives..

C’est avec beaucoup d’enthousiasme que je vous envoie cette mise à jour annonçant l’ouverture officielle du 46e Marché Champêtre de North Hatley, qui aura lieu le 19 juin prochain.
L’ouverture partielle, qui a eu lieu le 12 juin, fut une belle réussite en général, malgré le fait que ce n’était pas tous les marchands qui étaient présents ainsi que quelques petits ajustements, ce qui était à prévoir, voilà la raison de l’ouverture partielle. Les citoyens et les touristes étaient tous très heureux des nouvelles installations, tout comme les commerçants. A l’approche de la 50e année de cette tradition, il est clair que cet événement fait partie de la culture de notre village.
Plusieurs attendent avec impatience le mois de juin, mois qui annonce le retour du Marché, car il est devenu un lieu de rassemblement communautaire pour les citoyens, entouré par la possibilité de soutenir les agriculteurs et les entreprises locales. Avec les circonstances particulières que la pandémie nous a apportées, investir dans une initiative comme le Marché est un moyen idéal de faire renaître tout ce qui est local et communautaire dans une vie post-pandémique. L’investissement apporté par les nouvelles installations permanentes porte sans contredit le Marché à un autre niveau pour les années à venir, avec la possibilité pour l’espace d’évoluer vers un milieu adaptable pour le village. Je vois cet espace comme un véritable investissement communautaire.
En raison de la situation actuelle et des directives de la santé publique, nous avons dû modifier la cérémonie habituelle qui a lieu lors de l’ouverture officielle. Nous avons néanmoins invité le ministre de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation à y assister, puisqu’une partie du projet fut possible grâce à leur programme de subvention « Proximité », et nous avons envoyé un communiqué de presse aux médias.
