Bonjour à vous tous,

J’aimerai vous inviter au prochain café-causerie du Comité MADA (Municipalité amie des aînés) du Village de North Hatley, qui abordera un sujet crucial pour nous et nos proches : les options en soins palliatifs quand nous en avons besoin.  À cette occasion, nous sommes chanceux d’avoir l’opportunité d’accueillir la Dre. Louise La Fontaine qui donnera une présentation à ce sujet et qui peut répondre à nos questions.  Dre. La Fontaine est médecin en soins palliatifs, éthicienne, directrice du service universitaire de soins palliatifs et de fin de vie à l’Université de Sherbrooke et elle est aussi la présidente de l’Association québécoise de soins palliatifs.  

Le café-causerie aura lieu mardi le 25 février à 14h00 au Centre Communautaire de North Hatley (3127 chemin Capelton).  La présentation sera donnée en français, avec traduction en anglais.

Comme toujours, les membres du comité MADA vont préparer du café, du thé et des bouchées maison et il y aura beaucoup de discussion et échange d’informations.  L’entrée à cet événement est gratuite et un transport est disponible pour les résidents à proximité qui en ont besoin (819-842-2754).  Tout le monde est très bienvenu.

Hello to you all,

I would like to invite you to the next Tea and Talk of the Age Friendly Municipality Committee of the Village of North Hatley, which will cover a subject that is crucial to us and to those close to us : options that are available to us in palliative care when we need them.  On this occasion, we are very fortunate to have the opportunity to welcome Dr. Louise La Fontaine who will give a presentation on this subject and who can answer our questions.  Dr. La Fontaine is a palliative care physician, medical ethicist, director of the university palliative care and end-of-life service at the University of Sherbrooke, and president of the Québec Association of Palliative Care.

The Tea and Talk will take place on Tuesday February 25th at 2 pm at the North Hatley Community Centre (3127 chemin Capelton).  The presentation will be given in French with English translation.

As always, the Age Friendly Municipality Committee will be on hand with coffee, tea and home made goodies and there will be plenty of discussion and exchange of information.  Admission to this event is free and transport for area residents is available for those who require it (819-842-2754).  Everyone is very welcome.

Au nom du groupe qui a acquis la Résidence Connaught qui appartenait à Les Communautés de Retraités Massawippi, je tiens à formuler mes excuses auprès de la communauté de North Hatley pour avoir pris plus de temps que prévu pour vous communiquer une mise à jour sur le réaménagement de la Résidence Connaught. Afin de corriger certaines informations inexactes qui semblent circuler, nous sommes heureux d’affirmer à la communauté de North Hatley que le réaménagement progresse conformément aux plans et permis de construction approuvés par le Conseil municipal de North Hatley, bien que quelque peu retardé par le processus d’émission des permis en 2019 et ensuite par la météo hivernale. Nous espérions pouvoir aller de l’avant avec la démolition extérieure en 2019, mais après une première tentative, ce n’était pas l’idéal, alors nous nous concentrons donc maintenant sur les travaux à l’intérieur du bâtiment. Et oui, nous avons un permis valide pour procéder.

Il semble également y avoir une certaine inquiétude quant à la contamination possible et aux risques pour la santé de nos travailleurs et des habitants de North Hatley. Nous sommes des promoteurs expérimentés et prenons les enjeux de sécurité très au sérieux. Notre analyse environnementale a montré la présence de contaminants dans les murs intérieurs d’origine et cela est pris en charge par des professionnels. La CNESST est présente avec nous sur place pour assurer la sécurité de nos travailleurs et de la communauté.

Merci, et nous avons hâte de desservir la communauté des aînés de North Hatley pendant de nombreuses années à venir.

On behalf of the group who have acquired the Connaught from Massawippi Retirement Communities I would like to apologize to the North Hatley community for taking more time than planned in providing an update on the status of the Connaught re-development. In order to correct some inaccurate information that seems to be circulating, we are pleased to assure the North Hatley community that re-development is moving forward per the plans and building permit approved by the North Hatley Council, although somewhat delayed by the permit process in 2019 and subsequently by the winter weather. We had hoped to be able to move forward with exterior demolition in 2019 but after an initial attempt this was not practical, so we are now focusing on work inside the building. And yes, we do have a valid permit.

There also seems to be some concern about possible contamination and risk to the health of our workers and the people of North Hatley. We are experienced developers and take safety very seriously. Our environmental survey did show the presence of contaminants in the original interior walls and this is being taken care of professionally. The CNESST is active with us onsite to help ensure the safety of our workers and the community.

Thank you, and we are looking forward to serving the North Hatley seniors’ community for many years to come.

Je vous envoie un rappel concernant notre « Café Causerie », présenté par les membres du comité MADA du Village de North Hatley.

Cet événement aura lieu demain, mardi le 29 octobre à 14h00, au Centre Communautaire de North Hatley (3127 chemin Capelton) et, en plus d’une présentation intéressante de DIRA-Estrie sur un sujet important, il y aura du café, du thé et beaucoup de bouchées fait maison à déguster (il y aura des alternatives santé, bien sûr !).

DIRA-Estrie est le centre d’aide aux ainés victimes de maltraitance de la région et leur présentation, intitulé, « Ce n’est pas correct ! » vous aidera à identifier les indices de maltraitance envers une personne aînée (car les signes ne sont pas toujours évidents) et de savoir comment offrir du soutien de façon respectueuse et sécuritaire.  La présentation sera en français et en anglais alors si vous connaissez des personnes qui sont intéressées à y assister (anglophone ou francophone), veuillez le faire savoir.

L’entrée à cette présentation est gratuite et tout le monde est bienvenu.  Un transport est disponible pour les résidents à proximité qui en ont besoin (819-842-2754).

Good morning to you all,

I am sending out a friendly reminder regarding the upcoming “Tea and Talk” being hosted by North Hatley’s MADA Committee of the Village of North Hatley.  

The event will take place this coming Tuesday, October 29th, at 2 pm at the North Hatley Community Centre (3127 Capelton Road) and, in addition to an interesting presentation by DIRA-Estrie on a very important topic, there will be coffee, tea and plenty of home made goodies for you to sample (including a few healthier options, of course!).

DIRA-Estrie is the Help Centre for Elder Abuse Victims in the region and their presentation, entitled, « It’s Not Right! » will help you to be able to identify elder abuse (as the signs are not always obvious) and to know how to provide support in a safe and respectful way.  The talk will be in both English and French so if you know of anyone else who may be interested in attending (anglophone or francophone), please pass this message on to them.

Entry to this talk is free and everyone is welcome to join us.  Transport is also available for anyone living in the immediate area (819-842-2754).

This talk is possible thanks to the wonderful volunteers of DIRA-Estrie, and of our own MADA Committee members, as well as to financial support from L’Appui Pour Les Proches Aidants d’Ainés.
