Dear citizens of North Hatley,

I am writing this statement to announce that I have chosen to step down as mayor. I will not be running for office again in the upcoming election this autumn. I would like to thank the residents of North Hatley for supporting my candidacy for the last twenty-two years, ten as a councillor and twelve as mayor. It has been an honour to serve the community. My time on council has also afforded me a valuable learning experience from my twenties through to my late forties.

During this time, I have been fortunate enough to contribute to many community accomplishments, including the cycling path, infrastructure renewals, water plant, a new dam, the River Park Farmers Market, a renewed Connaught Residence, the strategic long term plan for our town and, very recently working on a program to support and recognize our local organizations formed by volunteers, along with many other projects.

Even though I am still very passionate about my town, I believe this is an opportunity for me to take more time for myself and my family of nine children, with the youngest being three, as well as my work at Val Estrie Ford. My family has started a new adventure of fostering with taking in kids in need and I wish to devote my time and energy to this cause.

While I may be taking a step down from my responsibilities as mayor to pursue quality time with my family, in the future, I intend to get involved in my beloved community again in some capacity.

Chers citoyens de North Hatley,

J’écris cette déclaration pour annoncer que je ne serai plus candidat aux prochaines élections de cet automne. Je tiens à remercier les résidents de North Hatley de m’avoir soutenu ma candidature au cours des vingt-deux dernières années, dix en tant que conseiller et douze en tant que maire. Ce fut un honneur de servir la communauté. Mon temps au conseil m’a également permis d’acquérir une excellente expérience d’apprentissage de la vingtaine à la fin de la quarantaine.

Pendant ce temps, j’ai eu la chance de contribuer à des nombreux projets, tels que la piste cyclable, le renouvellement des infrastructures, l’usine d’eau, un nouveau barrage, le marché champêtre du Parc de la Rivière, la résidence Connaught rénovée, le plan stratégique à long terme pour notre ville et, travaillant très récemment sur un programme de soutien et de reconnaissance de nos organisations locales formées par des bénévoles, ainsi que de nombreux autres projets.

Même si je suis toujours très passionné par ma ville, je crois que c’est une opportunité pour moi de prendre plus de temps pour moi et ma famille de neuf enfants, la plus jeune ayant seulement trois ans, en plus de mon travail à Val Estrie Ford. Ma famille a commencé une nouvelle aventure de famille d’accueil, accueillant  des enfants dans le besoin et je souhaite consacrer mon énergie à cette cause.

Bien que je puisse renoncer à mes responsabilités en tant que maire pour passer du temps avec ma famille, à l’avenir, j’ai l’intention de m’impliquer à nouveau dans ma communauté bien-aimée dans une certaine mesure.
